From morning drop-off until you swing back through, the day is broken into supervised group play, hands-on enrichment, and planned rest breaks. You’ll find our Northwest Indiana location on U.S. Highway 6 in Valparaiso, roughly 28 minutes down the road, and at pickup you’ll find a happily worn-out dog who’s ready to stretch out for the night.
Planning a trip that runs past bedtime? Our dog boarding near Michigan City, IN keeps your dog in familiar hands overnight.
Pack Pro Program
Pack Pro certification isn’t something we earned and tucked away in a drawer; it guides the way we run both daycare and day school at Bittersweet. As a national consulting group serving the pet care industry, Pack Pro partners with daycare facilities to sharpen staff training and tighten day-to-day program operations. That matters, because group play without a plan can slide into chaos quickly: rising noise, frantic energy, and dogs feeding off each other’s stress with no order to rein it in. Pack Pro’s methods exist to stop that from happening. Facilities that adopt them commonly see less runaway barking, fewer play sessions that turn too rough, fewer dogs testing open gates, and fewer injuries during play, along with staff members who grow more capable, more self-assured, and more satisfied in their work. For Michigan City dogs visiting our Northwest Indiana location, the result is a calmer, safer, and more fulfilling day from start to finish.
Inside a Day of Play for Michigan City Dogs
Our team knows every dog by name, personality, and play style. Here’s what fills a typical day at our dog daycare near Michigan City, IN:
- Turf and natural grass yards roomy enough for full-speed sprints, games of chase, and wrestling matches that last until the energy finally fades
- A rotating selection of toys alongside agility-inspired equipment, so no two visits play out exactly the same way
- Tall, secure fencing surrounding each outdoor yard, giving dogs the freedom of off-leash play without the risk
- Shaded areas and splash pools on hand for the hot, humid stretches of a Northwest Indiana summer
- Thoughtfully built playgroups based on each dog’s size, energy level, and temperament, never just a random mix of whoever showed up that morning
- Team members on the ground with the dogs rather than watching from the sidelines, getting to know every guest individually
- Planned rest periods in a climate-controlled space where dogs can recharge before their next round of play
Mental Workouts for Michigan City Daycare Pups
Our 5 pillars of Enrichment are:
Nutritional | Sensory Stimulation | Intellectual Enrichment | Social Engagement | Physical Environment
A tired body is only half the goal, which is why Enrichment Daycare is built to leave your dog mentally satisfied, too. Throughout the day, dogs sniff out hidden scents, figure out puzzle feeders, interact with their playgroup, and take on problem-solving games rooted in natural canine instincts. Visit by visit, boredom gives way to confidence. A new theme rolls out every month to keep the program fresh, and favorites from past months have included “Down on the Farm” and “Mystery Murder.”
Then there’s our Scent Space, a calm, dedicated room where sight and sound take a back seat and the nose does all the work. It may look simple, but roughly 15 minutes of concentrated sniffing can tire a dog’s brain about as thoroughly as a long walk tires their body. For anxious dogs and high-drive dogs alike, nose work is frequently one of the fastest ways to help them relax and settle.

Why Daycare Beats a Day Home Alone in Michigan City
- Dogs need exercise, play, and social contact much the way they need food and water, and daycare delivers all three under watchful supervision instead of leaving those needs unmet.
- A long day alone usually means no exercise and no mental stimulation, whereas the majority of our daycare dogs go home relaxed and satisfied rather than wound up.
- Once dogs have a reliable way to burn off energy, many owners notice a drop in boredom behaviors such as constant barking, chewed-up furniture, or slips in house-training.
- Vets and behavior experts consistently point to socialization as a cornerstone of a balanced dog, and a daycare routine makes it easy to fit that into every week.

Dog Daycare FAQs
What vaccinations does my dog need to join daycare?
For the safety of all our guests, we require dogs be up to date on their vaccinations for rabies, DHLPP (distemper), and Bordetella.
Starting July 1st, all dogs will be required to have the leptospirosis (lepto) vaccine in addition to distemper/parvo, rabies, and bordetella. Many veterinarians include lepto within the distemper/parvo combination (often listed as DHLPP), though it may also be administered separately (DHPP).

Why Michigan City Dog Owners Trust Bittersweet for Daycare
Dog owners in Michigan City have no shortage of places to get moving. The paved Singing Sands Trail stretches more than four miles across town as part of the Marquette Greenway, following Trail Creek toward Winding Creek Cove Park, while Barker Woods Nature Preserve on Barker Road offers a shady, wooded walk. Neighborhood stops like Hansen Park and Striebel Pond make for easy after-dinner loops, and with Lake Michigan and Indiana Dunes National Park so close by, plenty of local dogs spend their weekends on the go.
Weekdays are another story. Between South Shore Line commutes into Chicago, shifts that run late, and family schedules that never seem to slow down, a lot of Michigan City dogs end up spending eight or more hours waiting at home. Dog daycare near Michigan City, IN changes that. At our Northwest Indiana location in Valparaiso, your dog gets a day filled with play, rest, and attention from people who know them well. It’s all about a 29-minute drive from home.
How to Get Here from Michigan City
To our Northwest Indiana location: Head out of Michigan City toward Coolspring Township and merge onto I-94 West. Stay on the interstate for about 8.6 miles, then take exit 26A in Chesterton for State Route 49 South. Follow SR 49 south roughly 5 miles into Liberty Township and turn right onto US-6 West. After about a mile, make a right, and our Northwest Indiana facility at 19 West U.S. Highway 6, Valparaiso, IN 46385, sits just ahead on the left. Door to door, the drive covers about 19 miles and takes roughly 29 minutes.
To our Niles location: If you’re heading east instead, take East Michigan Boulevard out of town to US-20 East. From there, follow I-94 East and US-12 East across the state line into Bertrand Township, Michigan, then continue on Weaver Road to Bittersweet Pet Resorts at 2100 Weaver Road, Niles, MI 49120. Plan on about 37 miles and around 45 minutes.
