- A consistent schedule of potty breaks and nap periods to support healthy physical development
- Crate training combined with enrichment activities between structured play

- An introductory grooming experience, with one luxury bath and two nail trims included
- A puppy school photo on day one, shared to our Facebook page, plus ongoing trainer updates throughout the program

Does Bittersweet Pet Resorts offer puppy classes near Valparaiso?
Yes. Our Northwest Indiana location in Valparaiso runs Puppy Kindergarten and private one-on-one puppy sessions for families throughout Porter County and the surrounding area, including Chesterton, Portage, Merrillville, Crown Point, Hobart, and Michigan City.
What age can puppies start training?
Puppy Kindergarten is designed for puppies 12 months of age and younger, with age-appropriate obedience work and socialization built around where your puppy is developmentally. For puppies younger than that, our team can advise on when to start based on your vet’s vaccination timeline.
What vaccinations does my puppy need to start training?
We require proof of vaccination appropriate for your puppy’s age, per your veterinarian’s recommendation — generally distemper/parvo and Bordetella to start, with rabies added once age-eligible. Starting July 1st, all dogs are also required to have the leptospirosis (lepto) vaccine, which some vets bundle into the distemper/parvo combination (DHLPP) and others administer separately (DHPP).
My puppy is shy or unsure around other dogs. Can they still join puppy training classes?
Absolutely — that’s exactly the kind of puppy our program is built for. Our trainers introduce shy or hesitant puppies to group settings gradually, and we can also structure more one-on-one time if your puppy needs a slower ramp-up to group socialization.
How many puppy training sessions does my dog need?
Puppy Kindergarten runs as a 20-day program, which gives puppies enough repetition to build lasting habits rather than a one-off lesson. Give us a call to talk through what makes sense for your puppy’s age and temperament.

How to Get to Bittersweet NWI
From downtown Valparaiso, the drive to Bittersweet Pet Resorts’ Northwest Indiana location is just 12 minutes and 5.8 miles via N Campbell St and Meridian Rd. Head toward Washington St and turn left, following it about nine-tenths of a mile before turning left onto W Glendale Blvd. After a short stretch, turn right onto N Campbell St and continue for about 2.5 miles as it becomes Meridian Rd. Follow Meridian Rd for roughly 2 miles, then turn left onto US-6 W. In just a couple tenths of a mile, take a right — you’ll see our facility on the left at 19 W U.S. Highway 6.
